rogers holiday kit

Post  boguen on Thu Jan 08, 2009 9:16 am

To own a rogers kit has been my dream for some time now but whenever one comes up on trademe i'm broke! Just over four mounths ago one came up it looked like a bit of a mess but the buynow was $450 and there was a bit of interest so i just hit the buynow. they were in christchurch and i live in wanaka so i got a mate to pick them up till i could get down there. Picked them up a mounth ago a they were a mess!! some munta had painted them with blue/gray house paint you could see the brush marks!! was a bit bummed when i got home. The next day when i got them out of the wagon a bit of paint came off! i scraped off a bit more and was stoked!!! the original wrap is "BLACK ONYX" said to be one of "Ray Columbus and the Invaders" kits so if anyone knows how to get any photos of ray and the boys could you let me know, i've tried to google some without much luck. The kit still needs a lot of work but its a labour of love, so there's still the odd bargan on trademe just got to keep an eye out!!

Nice score dude, I saw that kit too a few mods but overall they looked ok. I have a book somewhere about early new zealand bands so will have a look for you re: the ray colombus thing. I own and play a rogers holiday black onyx in 20,14,12 sizes with the brass dynasonic and they are some of the best drums I have played. Heres a couple of pics of them

Haw haw looks like my first kit ..same colour same sizes bought new in ChCh 1965 for 189 'Pounds'.

Hated it, way too heavy.

Peter Ward played for Ray before Jimmy Hill but his kit was Mardi Gras Pearl
