anyone help i/d some cymbals????

Post  peterbrittenden on Sun Feb 15, 2009 6:55 pm

i'm a newbie so don't have a lot to offer just yet....but i do have some questions. i would like to identify some of the cymbals i have.the first is a 20" zildjian ride with what someone "expert" described as having a mini-bell. it weighs (according to my darling's kitchen scales) 2674gms. the second is a 22" sabian ride cymbal weighing 4198gms and the others are two 15" zildjian hi-hat cymbals weighing 1135 and 1073gms.
photos from http://illiweb.com/fa/pbucket.gif to http://illiweb.com/fa/pbucket.gif are the 20" ride...
from http://illiweb.com/fa/pbucket.gif to http://illiweb.com/fa/pbucket.gif are the 22" and from http://illiweb.com/fa/pbucket.gif to http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/ww101/peterbrittenden/17 the hi-hats

cheers and will appreciate input

Hi Peter, the hats pic isn't showing up when I click the link but I can help with the other cymbals. The 20" zildjian is a mini-cup ride - stamp indicates late 60's (70's stamp had no dots in the arabic 'U') but it may be a 80's, i'd need to see it in person. The Sabian is an older series HH (hand hammered) heavy ride and should sound excellent, it's probably around the early 90's. Hats i'm not sure on until I see pics.

Yep, found em - I think those are 60's as well. I just sold a really nice pair of 15" hats from that era. They are off to our own boguen.

All early sabian HH cymbals were signed by kerope zildjian as a final inspection from him, I guess they stopped doing it after he retired. I have some very early sabian HH's but the signatures are not visible – I don't think they used an ink that lasted very well when they started doing it.

Sabian HH signatures

Post  bryan on Sun Feb 22, 2009 11:42 pm

I have a couple' of Sabian Hand Hammered spashes and a ride… they still have a signature, but can't make out who's it is…

I heard somewhere that the HH series were signed by the maker.
