This is from the Promark Press Release:

"The TX515W Joey Jordison model is .551” (14mm) in diameter, and 16” long. Made of American Hickory, the TX515W is based on the popular 777 design but slightly shorter in length. The round wood tip provides exceptional articulation, power and consistency. The diameter is the same as the company’s best-selling 5A, so it is a practical stick as well, that should enjoy universal appeal."

((5A Spec's Diameter .551" and Length is 16". So its the same weight and length but it has more "forward" weight on the stick than a 5A and a ball tip))

I'd be keen to check them out, I have been digging a 5a style stick lately but I like it to be around 16 and 1/4 – is there anything like that in the promark range?

Thanks for the reply DrumCity, much more helpful with specs ( you can tell i'm not a name/brand person) Laughing Blood/ink really .. how the heck does he grip the sticks with those fingernails clown

Mark iv'e searched for between 5A and 5B sticks for some time, ones that have a bit more length to them (and a ball / barrell head).
Promark's closest find is the sticks i use for most playing, Intruder 720 model TX720W acorn head 16 1/2 length x .578

next closest are Vater power 5A which are my second fav. a militad thicker but they give me that oomph i like after years of slogging heavy weights 2b and 5b's but now like a little lighter but that heavier feel. 16 1/2 x .580

and then ones i really liked ( bright and fast) but can't find them any more, i think he has changed the specs, and gone to Regal Tip)these are/ were/ John Robinson model jazzer by Zildjian 16 5/8 x .575
Anyone got any wanna part with?

Of course everyone is different with hand size, playing style, preference to shoulder and balance feel, etc ... just a ballpark. Wink

I have also used and really liked Vic Firth American Classics 5A extreme both wood and nylon tip. Their F1 i have yet to try out (no seems to stock them here).

on the subject of sticks, i usually use promark sd-9's, but as it turns out i am too damn loud, i need a durable stick that aint gonna project as much

Hay firetomysoul, the Promark SD9 is a maple stick, so its already lighter than hickory models. But lighter sticks does not always equal quieter play, but most guys who play softer need a lighter stick so they can maneuver it more precisely, a larger stick or too heavy stick would be to cumbersome.

If volume is an issue you can always use Promark Hot-Rods for the "unplugged" sound.

But an even more simple solution might be to just play quieter and work your way down to a thinner stick.
There is a great old Ed Thigpen video where he explains that if your stick or your beater is only 1 inch off the drum head it will be limited to that volume, likewise if your stick is going above your head it will be limited to that volume.
If you switched back to a Promark 5A and tried working with that stick, you could find a reduction in volume and slowly work down to a 7A which should get you the result your after. The ultimate light stick is the Promark SD4 Maple, its like a chop-stick with a tip on it.

After all, its got to be better then playing behind one of those hideous screens people keep throwing up.

Good luck

i completely destroyed my last pair of hot rods in about 8 sessions, do they make like hot rods with thicker rods? like maybe just 7 thicker rods instead of 19?

have thought about using sd-4s for a while but yeah not too sure.

Also already behind a screen, hate the bloody thing gives me and the sound techs a headache.

tried some of these JJ sticks an wasn't overly impressed, they broke down pretty fast too. ill stick with Regal tips in future, far superior plus they dont fly out of your hands due to the sticky lacquer;)
