My setup

Post  BP28 on Wed Sep 30, 2009 5:32 am

My setup: Pearl Masters circa 1992; Maple wood finish

It's kind of a retro kit without being marketed that way. I call it retro but not because its 15 or so years old (to me that's still contemporary, drums haven't really changed that much), but because the dimensions are very similar to kits I owned in the 70's. In fact it's a near copy of the maple pearl kit that what's his name had in cold chisel when they started.

BD: 24" by 14"
Toms: 13" by 9"; 16" by 14"
Snares: 5" maple & 5" bronze I think (actually they might be 5 and a half)
Amabasdor heads all round, usualy white coated but sometimes clear on the two toms.

The BD has a thicker shell (9 ply?) and doesn't need glue rings, but the two toms are much thinner (7 ply?) and both have glue rings.

Ride cymbal comes off the BD, all others are straight stands. From memory they might be 800 series?
Cymbals are all Zildijian: 14" hats, 22' ride that is extreemly heavy and has no grooves. One 17" and two 18" crashes. I also have a bunch of smaller cymbals that get a turn occasionally. One favourite is a small Paiste bell cymbal that sounds astoundinly like a church bell!!

Actually now I'm thinking about it. I have a very old K series with a crack in it that I haven't played since it cracked in 1982. Anyone got any thoughts about where to get the crack drilled, or whether to bother?

B.

I've changed my setup completely back to a standard 5 piece set up.
70's Blonde maple ludwigs, 22x16" 12x8",13x9", 16x16" mounted toms
are on rims mounts but i'm using the original center mount for ease of
setup. Snare is either a 14x6.5" ludwig hammered bronze or 14x5.5"
ayotte keplinger. Cymbals: 14" K custom dark top over new beat bottom,
19" bosphorus crash, 18" K dark crash, 22" paiste 602 heavy ride.

Current use for classic rock covers
Drums 10,13, 16 Tama Granstars with Emperors
20" kick with Aquarian ported front and Powerstoke 3 batter, Evans EQ patch and EQ pad. Pearl Eliminator pedal

Snare is Tama 6 1/2 bronze (similar to senitone) with Lug Lock tension screw locks.

Pies are Zildjian 21" sweet ride, 17 A med thin, 16" A Custom and a 16" Sabian AAX studio.

tongue For hi hats i have a set of bright and nice warm toned Zildjian K's and love em, and bright and little brash with nice tone set of Sabian AAX stage and love em. Never being able to decide which set to put up as both are great, i tried the AAX for bottom and K top and it's the best of both worlds ...sweet as.

Tub Thumpers = Vater power5A or Promark 720 Intruder

Assesories are lug lock Tempo Ref , R.I.Ms mounts, and a Rockrider cow bell floating about somewhere.
Xtra effects Meinl 10" splash Byzance and 17" china MB10.

and Good luck charm A.E Nueman sticker

That's a nice rig i'm sold on the bronze snares in that size. Hows the sweet ride?
I kinda of thought they might be a bit washy to cut through amps?

Yes,a bit washy but a great crash and bell, i play it mostly just off the bell when riding. Most work is HH. Good example of sweet used as crash/ride ..

An A reso or K custom or Sabian rock would be nice to go along side (as you say to cut through when you need it) i have a Paiste Twenty ride for that, but how much stage space can one get away with Laughing
