How many snare drums do you own?

Post  Mark [Admin] on Thu May 22, 2008 1:32 am

Many drummers will have more than one snare drum in their collection how many do you typically own?

Ok, I have too many snares but in my defence some are Weta Custom stock and don't actually belong to me.
I have 2 black beauties, a 14x6.5" ludwig 402, 14x5.5" WFL super classic, and various other snares which hopefully
I won't be forced to list.

I've got 3 snares.
2 14" x 5" Gretschs.
A 10 Ply Maple and a COB both with cast hoops.
Also a 10" x 5" Gretsch Chrome auxilary snare which doubles as a mini Timbale with the snare off! Sounds great!

How does that cob sound Charlie? Do you not also have your kit snare? Or did I misread your post?

Hi Chili, I flicked off the Mapex snare that came with my kit...I prefer the Gretsch.
I've got the 2 14" x 5"s and the 10" x 5" auxillary ....total of 3.
I can only hit 2 at a time Laughing
I've still not had a chance to hit the COB. The show goes for another 2 nights then I'll be able to get home before 11pm and give it full noise.
I'll let you know how it sounds. Rolling Eyes

Michael,
you clearly suffer from what I've seen referred to as GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome).
Not an original thought on my part but I liked the sound of it!
My pick of the bunch would be the Dynasonic!
Do you have a favourite?...& how many kits do you have, I won't tell your wife, honest!

hey Charlie - yep i definitely suffer from that syndrome indeed - the gear disease just sneaks up on you and before you know it you're addicted. I have 5 drum kits - all vintage. You can see pics of a couple of them in the 'post photos of your vintage kit' thread in the Vintage drums forum. Re my fav snare - hard to say really as they all have different personalities and better for some applications than others - probably the most versatile is the Prem 2000. I love the dynasonic though - it is defintely one of the best quality built snare i have in terms of workmanship, technology and finish.

Post  T on Thu Oct 30, 2008 9:32 am

hey fellas,
i got 3.5 snares,

12x5 Brady Jarrah Block Shell (always makes the top of the list)
13x5.5 Mapex Black Panther Cherry Maple
14x3.5 Pearl Free Floating Maple/Copper
14x5 Premier vintage (don't know anything about this snare except that all the lugs and stuff are stuffed, and i need to find some time and money to restore this baby.)

i should warn you all, i have really bad "GAS"
just the other day i walked into rockshop for a footswitch for a metronome, and almost walked out with a remote hihat stand.

Well, lets see now,

seeing as i'm a Pearl man, the list is somewhat repetitive, hope it's not boring

Pearl 6.5" Free Floating Brass
Pearl 6.5" Free Floating Maple
Pearl 6.5" Free Foating Steel
Pearl Tico Torres Signature Snare (Free Floating Aluminium)
Pearl 6.5" "Jupiter" COB snare
Pearl 5" Luan snare that came with my Vintage Pearl kit (Gold Oyster Pearl finish)
Pearl 5" EXR Poplar/Basswood. came with the EXR Tiger Eye kit. (sounds like crap, too)

my two faves are the Tico snare and then the Brass snare.

What are you after? Most of the Premier bits and pieces I've had I've given to Bruce K in exchange for other bits and pieces.
