Grease the Musical...yuk!

Post  Charlie on Fri May 23, 2008 12:26 am

I'm not proud of this but....I'm currently playing a 10 night sold-out gig at the Queenstown Town Hall. It's the local Musical Society's production of Grease.
Two weeks to learn 20 plus songs all with important pushes and cues for the actors, so it was a bit of a challenge but lots of fun! The whole thing is a piss-take and quite funny really.
Very different to playing covers!
Being the only musician who doesn't read meant have to immerse myself in the CD and DVD of the show...nauseating...both of which I took great pleasure in burning when I'd finished with them. I don't want to hear another note of grease ever again!
But the gig is fun and has been very well received with some great reviews so it's all worth it.
Most of all I'm hoping some of the better muso's I've had the pleasure of playing with will consider me for future gigs!

Is Shaun Vining singing in the musical? He was the singer of my old covers band in Queenstown (years ago!)

Oh..you're the N from SNA? Is that what you were called?
No Shaun wasn't involved in Grease, it's over now, thankfully!
However both my wife, who played bass, and I were in a band with Shaun called "Two Left Feet". We were together for 12-18 months I guess.
Had some bad luck with lead guitarists who came & went over that period.
We had regular gigs at a local bar and played a number of weddings and parties, it was great fun.
Recorded a demo at Dave Allison's studio.
Then Shaun's wife Melissa and the lead guitarists wive both got pregnant at the same time, plus Shaun got some whacky religious hang-ups about playing bars and that ended the band.
Pity really, it was fun!
I did hear about you though...lots!
