Broken Cymbals

Post  Regal on Tue Jan 18, 2011 5:00 am

Feel so guilty for not coming on here as much as i'd like to.. the kinda guilt you feel when you dont call your mother for ages...
anyway..

Just wanting some advice and keen to hear what others do when you break cymbals.. i was gonna chuck them in the bin, then someone said put them on trade me.. another guy said take them to the scrap dealer..

what do you guys do? i've got absolutely no use for them!

Cry... Crying or Very sad then I try and replace them with a new cymbal.

Idea

i got one in from the USA that had been 'ezyflow welded' you can get it done here,it worked great and didnt detract from the sound a lot,was a top of the line cymbal so it may well be different with cheaper metals etc,and or may detract from a ride cymbal somewhat ? but most cracked are crashes, well worth a go .
Geof Ocheltree in the US makes whole drum kits from broken cymbals, check out the TOOL's drummer demo of these drums on Youtube,he also has dvd's out with a demo of his METAL drums .

Find a mate with a CNC router, get'em to give you a perfect, smooth circular cut. Works better than any other "repair" method I've tried (in terms of rock drumming - I hit harder than hell so if it holds up for me it'll hold up for anybody)
