Ajax snare ?

Post  Jdawki on Tue Aug 27, 2013 8:17 am

Hi, I have just acquired this old Ajax Snare, I've given it a bit of a clean up.
I'm not really up on vintage drums, I know it's brass and Ajax were around from the 30's to the 60's.
Does anyone out there know what year this would be from and how much it would be worth?
Any help or info on this drum would be much appreciated.

The oval badge puts it late 40s to about 1956 according to Sir Alan Buckley. Nice drum.

Terrible but it will be an easy fix if other bits from the seller materialise. I've noticed that these shells can't take much head tension. Tighten things up and the lugs buckle over with the shell ... I'm going to experiment with my boatbuilder putting the snare in a circular template and attempt to strengthen the structure with E-Glass and epoxy on the inside then reap the lug fitting holes to suit slightly larger machine screws ... How are you getting on??
