Why Amedia

Post  wampro on Mon Apr 14, 2008 3:11 am

[quote="Admin"]We all have our favorites, what do you play,,, Hi I have been a Zildjian man for 40 years & I now choose to use Amedia for the following reasons: 1. the quality is as good as K Zildjian, Signature Paiste, Sabian & other big name brands, BUT they cost a lot less. 2. I like the idea of using a cymbal that is not the same as everyone else’s because you can’t duplicate a hand made cymbal, they will always be different from each other. 3. I like the fact that the company staffed by the owners, everybody working there has a share in the company, they all are specialist in cymbal making & make every cymbal by hand. Last of all I like the fact that Amedia Master cymbal maker & owner has trained all of the great cymbal makers over the past 28 years to have come out of Turkey & who now work for the big names.
SO drummers wake up to Amedia & save you money “AMEDIA Cymbals are awesome” Very Happy

As yes, I checked out the Amedias at Nate's in Hobson street - some nice pies, of course theres always one cymbal that wants to come home with me but I exercised restraint. I am playing a mixture of zildjians and paiste's at the moment - I finally discovered that if you get the B20 Paiste's like formula 602 and sound creations they fit better with the complex tones of the zildjians. Paiste sig's are nice but they totally unbalance my kit - just don't fit in with my other cymbals.

I started out as a Paiste loyalist then opened up to a wider spectrum, currently playing a mix of Paiste and Meinl, as well as a couple from a few other brands in my collection being unused.

Another mixed bag

Post  Nick A on Wed Apr 16, 2008 2:57 am

Sabian and Zildjian, started out with a very heavy set of Sabians (Rock crashes/ride, Leopard hats), they were great while I was younger especially for hard rock/metal playing though one diemsional and no good for recording.

Over the last few years replaced the heavier crashes with medium weight Zildjians and use a K top on the Leopard bottom. Bascially seemed to be more good used Zildjians in circulation, obviously they fit in well with the Sabians.

Also had a great Istanbul 18" crash-worked well in the mix until I cracked it-I was rehersing in a confined space with an extremely loud band, couldn't get my placement right to start with, could barely hear myself play as soon as I struck the cymbal I knew it was bad news!

Favourite cymbals would be the Sabian AA12" Rock Ride, cuts well, though isn't a "clanger" and can still give you a good (albeit loud) wash and the 16" Zildjian Dark crash, just can't beat it.

Please excuse me if Im incorrect but judging by the prices on Trademe, they seem similar in price to Zildjian & Sabian? Surely not as cheap as purchasing new Zildjians, Paistes or Sabian direct from the US either? Im sure they sound great, just questioning these "cost a lot less" & "save you money" statements, thats all.

i use a few different brands but mainly zildjian - i got 13” K/Z Hi-hats (For Sale), 14” Vintage Avedis Hi-hats, 6” A Splash, 8” A Custom Splash, 15” Vintage Avedis Thin crash, 16” A Custom Crash, 18” A Custom Crash, 18” Oriental China Trash. Live i use some 14” Anatolian Kappadokia Hi-Hats and they really rock - i rate Anatolian as well. Just lately i picked up some Black label Paiste 2002's 16, 18, 20 crashes - a 22 Ride and some 15 Dixie hats so i'm looking forward to playing these too.

I use a 20" Paiste Rude Crash/Ride, 20" Paiste 2002 Rock Crash, 20" Paiste Dark Energy Ride MKII (as a crash), 9" Zilbel, 14" Paiste Signature Reflector Hats, 18" Paiste Alpha Rock China, 24" Paiste 2002 Mega Rock Bell Ride, 20" Paiste Alpha China, and 14" Sabian HHX Hihats (unsure of exact model though). I have an 8" Paiste Alpha Splash and 10" Paiste Alpha Metal Splash also, but don't have anywhere to fit them on my kit.

The cymbals are nice, but most of them are really only suited to heavy playing. I have both 16" & 18" Signature Reflector Full Crashes at home which I use for more ear-friendly music Smile

Haha - I'm a drummer well before I'm a salesman :-) Nah I'm not entirely a Paiste guy. For myself I do believe in what I sell, but I really do love those hats and would never part with them. Besides, they were Atwaters stock before all this brand exclusivity. Those reflector hats are mean though, and if I could afford 2 sets of those I'd certainly have those!

Hi Y'all....I think I'm going to be very comfortable here...so many Paiste users!
When I gave up playing guitar and swapped my DeArmonds for a kit 4 years ago it had a couple of 2oo2s with it so I've built on those and added a couple of Signature Chinas (a little more complex than the 2oo2s) and a bell. Also got a nice Sig ride that I use for Jazz gigs coz the 22" 2002 has too much wash for quieter gigs and smaller venues.

2oo2s
14" Heavy Hats
8" & 10" Splashes
14", 16" & 18" Crashes
22" Ride

Signatures
12" & 18" Thin Chinas
10" Bell
20" Dark Dry Ride

I'm VERY happy with them!
Now all I have to do is learn to play them properly! Very Happy

Hi Admin, I must say if I was to swap models it would be to 602's .... if I had the money and didn't care that my wife would leave me!
Some of those suckers are getting very pricey now!
That ride was great find.
These always one or two on Ebay they often start low, price-wise, but demand is pretty high and people are willing to pay for them. I've even seem some old/new stock show up every now and then...new 602's ....drool, dribble!
I'm gonna stick with what I've got. 2oo2's Sigs and a happy marriage!

Well I put in my vote for Bosphorus because they are my main set. But I've also got a set of Istanbul hats and ride which hang with a Mike Skiba reworked K Zildjian crash/ride. Plus a set of pre serial 602s, a set of Dreams, and an odd Sound Creation. Too many, but I love the diversity.

Hey i bought a kappadokia ride last year and haven't been that happy with it, i was expecting a K/bosphorus sound but its just a bit tinny for me.

that's a shame - i heard a guy in Wellington play a 22" kappadokia ride a couple of years back and it sounded really nice from the audience with a sort of dry K sound. Being hand-hammered I think it's one of those things where you've got to play the cymbal before you buy it as the sound can differ from cymbal to cymbal. Anyhow's they are certainly great for the price! Brent from Jansen in Newmarket is who I got mine from (in fact he sold me my Rogers drum kit as well!)

well at the moment I'm using lower end Sabians except for my 9" Zil-Bel.

When i upgrade ill probably go with A Customs or AAs... probably a mix of both. I don't mind having a mix at all. I know some people like their cymbals to be all the same brand and sometimes all same series. But I'm just gonna go with what sounds good.

Heh well I started out with some 14" Zyn hi-hats, and a Paiste 101 20" ride which I eventually cracked (since it was also my crash, I could only afford one cymbal). Replaced them in the mid 90's with Paiste Alpha SE 14" hats and 16/18" power crashes and a late 50's 22" Zild A ride. The Alphas really are good value for money, and they are still in great nick. I feel they actually sound better recorded than live.

But now I've replaced them with Paiste 2002 black label 15" hats, Paiste 2002 14" SE hats and 18/19" crashes, and will keep the 22" Zild A ride. A strange combo but I love that ride and it all seems to work together. The ride is very washy though, too much for smaller venues and it tends to freak people out. So maybe a dryer Paiste ride is in order.
