Hey All.

The good old Zildjian 14" Z custom dyno beat hihats have been doing it for me a wee while now. I got kind of sick of the blearing sound they originaly made when playing openish, but as i got better and swapped the hihats around they give the right amount of sizzly sound and are nice and crisp when played tight. Tuff bastards they are too - they can take a beating. Aside from them i use a mixture paiste and zildjian cymbals. I would like to buy the 9" oriental splash that zildjian do, anyone in to those?

the kapadokia is a 20". I've actually began really liking it now.....weird. maybe they're one of those cymbals that gets better with age. just bought a 16" a custom and 18" k custom fast crash off ebay, can't wait to get them!!!!

haha... Im the only person who plays Istanbul!!! Back in high school I only played zildjians but since I bought my new kit last week I checked out Istanbul cymbals and I absolutely love the sound of them! I only have a set of Mel Lewis series hi hats and an 18" Traditional Medium crash which is a great crash ride for jazz...

I wanted the zildjian constanopline 21" ride on trademe but someone beat me to it...... I feel quite sad bout it... Might have to buy an Istanbul Epoch ride which sounded soo sweet!

Bosphorus cymbals

Post  cymbalmad on Wed Jul 23, 2008 9:24 am

Cymbal madness is just a subtype of cymbalaholic. It may be curable but you have to want to be cured and I don't want to be cured. I have been to the Bosphorus factory twice now, once in 2005 and again in June this year. They made me very welcome and gave me the distributorship for New Zealand. I'm not going to sell to shops as this will put the price up and make them less accessible but instead will gradually put them on trade me. They cost me a lot more this year than in 2005 (something about the cost of copper and tin having gone up). I've put a small margin on the wholesale cost (cymbal + shipping + GST) but not much. The aim is to get these beautiful instruments into NZ and have them played and heard and they should sell themselves. Years ago I some owned Zildjians and they were lovely (foolishly sold them), then Paiste 602's (but didn't know how good they were either so sold them too) ... and Giant Beats etc. (same story). But there'll be no more dwindling of cymbal numbers ever again ! Cymbals are a matter of taste, and to my taste Bosphorus are the very best I've ever heard. Enquiries to bosphoruscymbals@clear.net.nz Say what you would like and I'll import them and pass them on as cheaply as possible.

cymbals in use

Post  granstar on Thu Sep 04, 2008 9:21 am

Currently using for pop/rock

Hi hats = Sabian AAX stage, and Zildjian K
I have trouble picking between them for gigs as are both pleasant to play, and very versatile. Also have Paiste 2002, all 14".

Crashes = Zildjian A custom 12" and 16"
Sabian 16" AAX studio
Meinl 17" MB10 medium

Rides = Zildjian 21" A sweet ride
or 20" K Heavy

Effects = Meinl Byzance 10" splash
MB 10 17" china

So i'm not not a "product name person" as you can see. Smile No Vote.

Hey man, yeah the SC china is nice but I still like my 17" K china a little more. I love the old zildjians too but
i'd not subject them to my rock kit ha ha

on close inspection it is 2kg
about the same thickness as my zbt ride (med/heavy)

and a zildjian (the stamp has been mostly polished off)
similar to if not the same as

http://cgi.ebay.com/18%22-Zildjian-Avedis-Flat-Ride-VINTAGE--_W0QQitemZ140295220893QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090116?IMSfp=TL090116118002r25983

I have always been a zildjian man, but I recently discovered UFIP. cheap as chips, and awsome sound. If i had more money I would go all out, but Il have to keep some of my zildjians for the mo. Check UFIPs out at Music planet, you wont be dissapointed
