Strange Drums sizes

Post  gingadrummer on Thu Nov 13, 2008 9:03 pm

Hi all
Just wondering if anyone knows where I can source new drumheads for strange sizes. I have a pre WW2 1930's Sonor steel shell snare, with an approx size of 12 1/2". Steel hoops and four clasp style floating lugs. Has animal skins on at the moment, but trying to restore.
Thanks

Most modern drum head manufacturers don't make odd size heads but remo does make odd size heads for pre international size premiers. The rock shop in K Road has 12 and 1/2" heads in ambassador weight I think although there is no guarantee that they will fit your drum. With those kind of drums it's a good idea to have the heads re-tucked with calf skin by someone who is experienced at it bruce king comes to mind.
